Warning labels on candy?

Has anyone else noticed this:

"Candy is a treat. Please consume in moderation."

This was inside the wrapper. ???

Has this warning always been on candy bars? Or is there a sudden new awareness in line with coffee cups that say "Caution: Hot beverage"?? How stupid are we as consumers?

I think it's probably a proactive approach since there's rumblings of suits going through for the companies that "make us fat." I don't know whether it angers me more that companies can avoid liability with a single sentence or that companies have to protect themselves from the stupid people of the world that are seemingly unaware that coffee tends to be hot and candy tends to make you fat.

I've never seen that before, but it sounds like an attempt to avoid liability. It is like the saw that I saw recently that said, "Warning! Do not stop blade with hands or genitals." I wonder who tried that!

Never seen it, but not at all surprised. Gah.

I can't believe that our courts will actually tolerate those lawsuits.

I'm sorry, I just can't stop laughing over astroprof's comment ~ who'd a ever thought to stop *anything* with one's genitals?

Hmmm... haven't seen that one. But I am not crazy about candy anyway.
