Better late, then never..... this is so me.

Your Candy Heart Says "Get Real"
You're a bit of a cynic when it comes to love.
You don't lose your head, and hardly anyone penetrates your heart.

Your ideal Valentine's Day date: is all about the person you're seeing (with no mentions of v-day!)

Your flirting style: honest and even slightly sarcastic

What turns you off: romantic expectations and "greeting card" holidays

Why you're hot: you don't just play hard to get - you are hard to get

Seasons of Change

I originally typed the title of "On Leaving" in this entry ...but then decided that that entry is still brewing. I have a multitude of thoughts on leaving this place, this job, and this lifestyle..not ready to spill my guts on that one just yet. So rather than focus on the leaving, I've chosen to write about the changes and focus on the positive. [Hhhmmm....I guess that last sentence indicates that there are some negatives to the leaving part--there are ....but not all negatives for me, some are just negatives about this place, job, and lifestyle....so things that are good to be leaving..but I digress again.]

So how about those changes:

I've decided it's time to work a little on my personal life. Kind of ironic that the words "I've decided" actually sound like I've taken control of this.... not really how it happened at all. Maybe it's not even really working on my personal life; but rather just letting things grow in my personal life without quashing them.

So in a relatively short period of time (within the last six months) I have:

  • Fallen in love.
  • Applied and gotten a new job that is at a big research university but is not a tenure track job like the current spot. (Mr. Big saw a job posting that 'looked kind of like what I do')
  • Decided to take said job and move 700 miles away from current location but happily is within 50 miles of good friends.
  • . . . And within 2 miles of Mr. Big ... so also made decision to move in with Mr. Big.
  • Took Mr. Big home over the holidays and told family that I have taken new job and will be moving in with Mr. Big.
  • Returned for the new semester and informed everyone it will be my last semester here.

Seems a bit ridiculous to bullet point them as they have obviously been major life changing events for me...complete with ups and downs that have stretched my tiny emotional range. So more on the details later.....

Editing and Making Changes

Today I made a small change in my "About Me" section--I changed the word 'starting' to 'ending' in front of the phrase 'first tenure-track job'. Big changes are a comin' and I feel the need to blog again.

Apprently blogging is way for me to deal with the changes in front of me as seen by the sparodic postings over the past few years. First a job search, then a move to another state, buying a house, and starting a new job.

Now it will be leaving that job, leaving academe, selling that house, moving to another state, and starting a new non-tenure track job, and the impetus for it all--> Mr. Big.

Change is hard; but change can be good.

Guess where I have been?

Here:
I saw lots of interesting places.... however the internet was not good so there was no blogging from this location.

First day of teaching

Today I met both of my classes for the first time and things went well. I really like my doctoral seminar class --it's a great group of students who are really interested in the topic. I'm going to look forward to this group each week. My other class was fine...except for the mob outside the door hoping to get a seat...even though I've had a sign on my door for a week saying the course was closed. # of seats = # of butts--can't change that math.

In other news...I will be flying over the big bond in less than 48 hours. I'm so not ready or willing for this trip..but it is going to happen anyway. At least the paper I'm presenting is done.....still need to make a flashy powerpoint to show of my less than stellar findings.

Sleepy statgirl needs some ZZZZzzzzzz........

T minus 1....

Until the official beginning of the academic year...in terms of contract anyway since classes do not begin for another week. However, there are students swarming back into town and onto campus....Target and Walmsrt and no longer safe places to shop. Tomorrow is the first meeting o' the year. Did I mention how much I love to go to meetings?

Today was a day o' questions: "What classes should I take?" " How long do I have to make up my incomplete?" "What books are we using?" "What do you want to teach in the Spring?" "Do you want a website for your courses?" "Can I get into class X which is closed?"

Meanwhile in my world, I spend the morning on the phone trying to track down a location which would get me foreign currency in less than 2 weeks---sometimes I forget I am not living in a large city. Clearly I put off this task too long..but finally found a bank that could help me out. Not that this issue is taken care of and I also found my passport (took an hour and half ) all the little details are ready for the trip across the ocean. Unfortunately the major issue ---finishing the paper I am going to present--is not yet complete. Will be spending some long hours this weekend working on that issue.

Oh, and syllabi need to be finished (actually just updated as I plan no major overhauls for courses I have taught before). Trying to figure out what my students will be doing/reading while I am away.

Need a little relaxation this evening.....before it all begins.
